Articles On Improving Self Esteem

Article by Ian Lewis

Before we take a look at the trends common in articles on improving self esteem, let’s define what we mean by “self esteem”. Quite simply, it is a self-evaluation, or how one views oneself. When you look in the mirror, who or what do you see? A child? A scared and abused, unloved person? A wretch? Whatever your answer, this is what we mean by the term “self esteem.” Certainly it also extends to how we think others view us as well; this is all a measurement of ourselves, commonly referred to as self esteem. It is slightly different than, though inextricably linked to, self confidence.

Having established that, what are some trends found common to most all articles on improving self esteem?

Subjective Interpretation

All articles on improving self esteem rightly assume that self esteem is a subjective interpretation. This only makes sense because it is in the very definition of “self esteem,” but it’s nonetheless an important fact we shouldn’t overlook. However we view ourselves, at whatever place we believe we occupy on the echelon of world events, we are evaluating ourselves. This is important to realise because that puts us at the helm of the ship. It is important to distinguish between objective fact and subjective interpretation. An objective fact is true no matter what, it can’t be changed. The past, for instance, is entirely composed of objective facts. Our self esteem is a subjective interpretation; it is self-shaped and open to be molded by the thoughts we choose to think.

Self Esteem Is Shaped By Our Past

We are a product of our past, to a certain degree. Articles on improving self esteem and common sense make this plain. Though we cannot change our past, cannot erase hurts or failures, cannot regain lost opportunities, etc., we don’t have to be shaped by our past. The fact that we are is one side of the coin, this isn’t an objective fact, however. We can let go of the self-defeating trajectories of our past as a caterpillar becomes a butterfly, and the change can be just as drastic with the right tools and methods. Anchoring our present and future performance on the changeless history that led us to this point, however, is destructive behavior. Many articles on improving self esteem bear this out.We Are As We Think

Another common thread running through most articles on improving self esteem is that we are as we think. That is to say, we limit our self image to the ugly, inadequate picture we’ve developed through negative thinking over the course of our lives. We view ourselves as our bankrupt, alcoholic father or mother, and don’t even bat an eyelash. We resigned ourselves to becoming the mirror image of our childhood anti-heroes, and made it a subconscious goal. Arriving there, we call it “destiny” or “fate.” Actually, it was only negative thinking that programmed our failures into our lives, and wrong self image coupled with deep-seated bad habits produced a mirror image of that person we didn’t want to become.

Why would it be that these issues can be found re-pitched in almost all articles on improving self esteem? The simple answer is this: we are birds of a feather. We are part of the human family, and we limp the same way like lemmings off a cliff. The good news is that the answers, at least the ones that work, are the same as well. Positive thinking and avoiding negative thinking are chief among them. This makes sense, because if we start our lives on a journey without knowing our destination, without knowing why we keep producing the same results with more of the same actions, then we wind up walking the same ruts set before us. We’re on train tracks, not realising that we actually own the switch house and can therefore create our own futures.

The Importance of Improving Self-Esteem

Article by Leila

Improve your self-esteem and you’re sure to gain the confidence that you need to rise above every challenge that you are faced with. It sounds easy, right? But building your self-esteem is something that you need to put all your efforts into. Once you have a strong self-esteem, you’ll find that the things that you hesitated doing before will come so easily, like approaching someone for a business proposition or clinching an important job interview! Why is self-esteem so important? How is it related to self empowerment? According to Abraham Maslow, man has a hierarchy of needs that lead to self-actualization. First, one has to fulfill the physiological needs, which includes food, water and shelter. Second, is the need for safety, which includes stability, security and freedom from being in fear. Third, is the need for belongingness, which involves the need for friendship, love and family. Fourth is the need for self-esteem, which then leads to the top need of self-actualization, which denotes the feeling of fulfillment.Based on Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs, it can be seen how self-esteem, which means having the confidence and respect of others in order to believe in one’s self and achieve success, is a crucial step in realizing one’s self. Hence, self empowerment can only be achieved when one has a strong self-esteem; and only when one has gained this can one truly know what it is to live a fulfilled and happy life.So you see now that to improve self-esteem is one of the tasks that is most important for you to be able to complete yourself. It is important for you to realize this in order for you to do something about it. This is what personal development training is all about. Professionals have studied self empowerment because scientific facts show that it is essential in being able to succeed in life and in overcoming the many challenges that life gives you. Self-esteem is what makes you strong; it is what makes you get up failing and say, “I can do this!” And it is through this that you are given the courage to learn from your mistakes and succeed.Where other people say that self-esteem starts from the inside, I say that the outside appearance also helps. When you dress in an appropriate manner, wearing colors that flatter you, people will start to take notice of you and take you seriously. When other people show you the respect that you deserve, you feel good inside and you start to gain confidence and improve your self-esteem. For instance, when you dress shabbily and in gloomy colors, people tend to ignore you. And this does nothing to develop your self esteem. It makes sense, right? But at the same time that you’re developing your own style that makes a statement about your personality and the goals you want to achieve, you should also work on your inner equilibrium. Ask yourself what your priorities are and what you really want to do with your life. Know yourself better. Don’t stress yourself over every little thing. Find a balance between work and play. These are just a few things I want to share with you; but most of all I want to let you realize the importance of improving your self-esteem.Hi, I’m CarolAnn Edie and I would like to invite you to my women empowerment website, so that I may help you improve your self-esteem so that you may achieve your life’s goals. The 6 Steps to Effective Weight Loss And Improving Health and Fitness for Beginners

Article by Joseph Remington

How to Lose Weight and Feel Great…

When first beginning on the path to health and fitness, it is easy for a beginner to be intimidated and confused. With so many different opinions and approaches to the best methods of fitness; onecan easily be overwhelmed. However, it doesn’t have to be that way. In fact, becoming physically fit is very easy to do when following some simple guidelines. The most difficult thing however is making the decision, and then following through with your desired goal and level of fitness you want to achieve. So, put another way, reaching your health and fitness goals requires only two things; discipline (it’s up to you so Be Accountable for Your Actions) and a set of simple guidelines, the basic of which I will provide for you here.

1. First You should arrange for a full physical examination from your physician. This is mandatory for people that have high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, or are obese. Once you have your doctor’s approval to begin a health and fitness program, you should schedule a fitness assessmentwith a health professional at your gym, though these are not fun things to do they are the foundation of determining where you are physically and where you want to be with your goals to shed fat.

The real benefits of the fitness assessment are not finding out how much fat you have or how long you can run on the treadmill. The benefits are better understanding where your strengths and weaknesses are. So in order to avoid injury and actually achieve your health and fitness goals, get to know your strengths and weaknesses.

2. The next secret is to walk, to your fitness success. You do not need to run in order to get the most out of beginning a fitness plan. Start out slow, and gain momentum. As the saying goes slow and steady wins the race. Trying to run a marathon before you get started will only have you quitting and making excuses for why you failed.

3. Another little benefit of a good fitness assessment is that it will actually serve as a nice introductory workout to your return to your new health and fitness lifestyle. It will remind you of the reality of what your body actually can do right now in your current condition. Once the fitness assessment reminds your body of its current condition and awakens your muscles from their winter slumber, you will realize your limits that you must respect in future workouts.

4. Goal-setting is another secret to success, not only with your fitness goals but in every area of your life. It is a lot more effective to commit to a set of specific short-term and long-term goals than it is to simply hope for you to lose weight each year.1. First, build your social support team. Social support is the #1 success factor in health and fitness programs and is key to helping you shed fat. Support can come from your spouse, brother or sister, child, mom or dad, friend, neighbor, co-worker, personal trainer, or lifestyle coach. Don’t try to go it alone. People respond better when they report to a person instead of a machine.2. You also need to know that nutrition is the second most important success factor in health and fitness programs. You can check out an article that I recently posted about Why Low Fat Diets Make You Fatter. This article shows the power of nutrition, and how we’ve All been lied to concerning proper diets. You really don’t need to train like a world-class athlete when you are starting to shed fat. Most of the fat you’ll lose in the early going is because you have chosen to make better nutritional choices. And if you don’t make better nutritional choices, even the best exercise program in the world isn’t going to help you achieve your goals to shed fat. We’ll talk more about exercise programs in a minute though.

First, you should sit down and set some realistic goals TODAY. Always remember to set within your limits, but don’t be afraid to stretch on your expectations just a little to challenge yourself. If you are currently have not exercised in months (or years), do not begin an advanced training program. Start with a conservative beginner program. Your stored fat wasn’t built in a day, and neither will it be lost in a day.

Okay, now a little exercise to get the blood flowing. Again, start out slowly. For instance, begin with 1 set per muscle group. In week 2, you should be ready to add an additional set. And if you want to build up to 3 sets, then do so in week 3. Slowly increase theweight and stay within your desired repetition range. At no time should you be too sore to function. Sore muscles are guaranteed when you lift. So keep the volume low when you are just starting out.

And now for 2 super secrets that will help keep you committed and consistent with your workouts and will finally help you lose fat for good.

Nutrition is a lot simpler than you think.Don’t over think things. See a nutritionist or listen to what yourmother told you as a kid. Food choices should contain a large nutrient-to-calorie ratio. Dr. Phil (yes that Dr. Phil) calls this “High-Response Cost, High-Yield Nutrition”. And follow this rule: Don’t eat foods with added sugar or high-fructose corn syrup, but make sure to log your nutritional intake. This is a free website that allows you to track your calories, protein, carbohydrates, and fat.

The consistent use of these 6 secrets will help you achieve your health and fitness goals to shed fat this year. Make your fitness plan a strategic investment in your future health.
